However, the search for the Sami population breaks this evolved habitat and penetrates into the most hidden corners of the country where the extreme climate is flanked by equally extreme living conditions where only the ancestral strength of an isolated people could survive. The Viaggio di Mantegazza is an anthropological study trip on the habits, customs, traditions and culture of one of the peoples who most jealously guard their own secret identity. Natural wonders combine with Sami customs to form a microcosm that the author faces with learned curiosity, studying all those elements that make such a symbiosis possible.
